A MBC unit was tested at a municipal treatment plant for the chemical removal of phosphorus after the secondary clarifiers. The MBC reduced the phosphorus from an average of 2.96 mg/l/ to 0.38 mg/l single stage and 0.08 mg/l simulated dual stage. Removal was limited due to limited chemical reaction and flocculation time.
